Kids at Weddings: 5 Easy Ways to Entertain Them

Kids at Weddings

We all know kids have short attention spans. Within a few minutes of sitting at a ceremony, kids will start becoming restless, and that’s the last thing we want. Read on to find out our 5 recommendations, that are simple and easy, to keep kids occupied during a wedding day!

1) Coloring Books and Crossword Puzzles

These items are easy to pack into your purse/bag, and they develop motor and thinking skills, so we highly recommend them! Furthermore, you can also gear them toward the event itself. Look online for free templates of crossword puzzles and wedding color sheets.

2) Create a Kids Area

This area can be supervised by a hired professional or a willing parent. You can have this at the ceremony and/or reception. If this area is indoors you can have a movie playing, pass out coloring sheets and crossword puzzles (as mentioned above), some snacks, toys, and board games. Some venues are happy to provide a TV and DVD player when you explain what they are being used for.

If you’re using an outdoor area, you can have yard games available like giant Jenga, hula hoops, giant Connect 4, or Twister. If you don’t mind investing a bit you can splurge for a bouncy castle.

3) Hiring Entertainment

This might seem intimidating at first, but you’d be surprised at the options that are out there. No matter if your budget is large or small, there are definitely services you can provide to keep the kids (and many adults) happy!

Some examples of services to research are: magicians, clowns, balloon artists (here is one in the Charlotte area), or even a mini zoo! Who wouldn’t love a mini zoo?!

4) Book a Photo Booth

This is an add on that many couples include thinking of fun for the adults. You might not realize what a hit it is with children! Kids love to play dress-up, pretend they’re their favorite superhero, or just be silly in general. While the adults can let loose a little using this bit of entertainment, it’s a great way for parents and kids to get some quality time together. And not to mention, they’ll leave with a memento – a printed picture. (If you aren’t aware, we are HUGE advocates of people getting their images printed!)

5) Include them

Many kids just want to be included! Have them help out, and be part of the day. They can pass out confetti, bubbles, sparklers or whatever you may be using for your exit. In addition, you can have them help pass out favors at the reception, and/or the ceremony itinerary as guests are seated.

I hope you found this post helpful, and if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to reach out! Happy planning!
