An Intimate Wedding Ceremony at McGill Rose Garden
The first day of the celebration was intentionally intimate.
The couple gathered with their immediate family at McGill Rose Garden, one of Charlotte’s most distinctive garden wedding venues. Located just outside Uptown on North Davidson Street, the garden combines lush greenery, winding paths, and a relaxed atmosphere with the convenience of being right in the city. The venue describes itself as a unique Charlotte wedding location and accommodates weddings as well as small ceremonies and micro weddings.
For this wedding, the garden provided the perfect setting for a private ceremony with the people closest to the couple.
Both grooms wore handsome blue suits, creating a polished and classic look against the greenery of the garden. Before the ceremony, they shared private vows alone before traditional vows in front of their immediate family.
It was an especially meaningful way to begin their wedding celebration: personal, emotional, and centered around the people who mattered most.
For couples considering a smaller ceremony followed by a larger reception, a two-day wedding can offer an opportunity to have both. You can keep the ceremony intimate while still creating a larger celebration for your extended family and friends the following day.
A Black-Tie Charlotte Wedding Reception at VanLandringham Estate
The following day, the wedding celebration continued at VanLandringham Estate, a historic Charlotte estate known for its elegant architecture, beautiful grounds, and romantic atmosphere.
While the ceremony day was intimate, the reception day brought everyone together for a sophisticated black-tie celebration.
The reception color palette was a classic combination of black, gold, white, and green. The result was timeless and refined, with enough warmth and texture to feel especially beautiful against the backdrop of a Charlotte fall evening.
The couple began the day by getting ready together, which gave us the opportunity to photograph some of the quieter moments before the reception began. Rather than rushing straight into portraits, we had time to explore the property and photograph the couple throughout both the interiors and exterior grounds of the estate.
That variety is one of the things we love about photographing weddings at VanLandringham Estate. The historic home and surrounding grounds offer multiple settings for portraits, allowing a gallery to feel diverse while still maintaining a cohesive, elegant aesthetic.
Portraits Throughout VanLandringham Estate
Once the couple was ready, we explored the estate together for portraits.
We photographed both indoors and outdoors, taking advantage of the architecture, landscaping, and natural light throughout the property. The result was a collection of portraits that felt polished while still capturing the couple’s personalities.

And because the reception would continue into the evening, we knew there would be plenty of opportunities later in the day for completely different photographs.

The evening began with cocktail hour, but the couple didn’t simply blend into the crowd.
They made an entrance.
It was a fun transition from the more intimate portions of the day into the celebration with their guests. The evening continued with toasts before everyone transitioned from inside the estate home into the clear tented reception space.
The reception tent was transformed by candlelight and fairy lights, creating a warm glow that made the space feel cozy and inviting after the sun went down.
The black, gold, white, and green color palette worked beautifully with the warm lighting, creating an atmosphere that felt both formal and comfortable.
A Reception Filled With Meaningful Moments
One of the things we appreciated about this wedding was the way the couple intentionally built private moments into an otherwise lively reception.
They chose to have a private cake cutting, giving them a quiet moment together away from the crowd.
They also danced with both of their mothers at the same time, creating a meaningful family moment that was especially wonderful to photograph.
Then the dance floor opened, and the energy changed completely.
A Packed Dance Floor All Night Long
Marc and Will’s friends came to party.
There is something particularly fun about photographing a reception where guests are completely invested in the celebration. Instead of having to coax people onto the dance floor, everyone was ready to boogie.
The result was exactly what you want from a wedding reception: movement, laughter, big reactions, and plenty of moments that couldn’t have been staged.
For us, those photographs are some of the most important images from a wedding day. The portraits tell you what the couple looked like. The candid reception photographs tell you what the wedding felt like.
A Private Last Dance & Wedding Exit
Toward the end of the evening, the couple stepped away from their guests for a private last dance.
After spending the evening surrounded by family and friends, having a few minutes alone gave them a chance to slow down and take in the fact that their wedding celebration was coming to an end.
Afterward, the couple made their way down the steps of the estate house surrounded by guests and a shower of paper streamers.
It was an energetic ending to an incredibly personal two-day celebration.
A Wedding Day That Was Completely Their Own
Marc and Will’s wedding was a beautiful reminder that your wedding doesn’t have to fit into a predetermined formula.
An intimate ceremony at McGill Rose Garden allowed them to exchange vows surrounded by immediate family. A black-tie reception at VanLandringham Estate the following day gave them the opportunity to celebrate with everyone they loved.
