Ballet wedding models embracing in North Corner Haven's vineyard

Ballet Wedding

This ballet wedding editorial is a contender for my all-time favorite. The group of vendors brought together are some of the best in Charlotte, and they turned Phylicia Willis’ concept into breathtaking reality.

This ballet wedding editorial didn’t have models dressed as dancers. We photographed actual dancers from The Charlotte Ballet (scroll to the bottom to see the full list of vendors). Naturally, the dancers worked beautifully together and carried themselves with poise and grace. But some of my favorite photographs are them being themselves, laughing, and playing in the late summer sun. After a hard year, I think we all needed a little bit of that!

Meagan Kelly’s dresses always impress and the design she chose for our female model was perfection! It is a combination of sophisticated, sexy, and fun. The neckline is comprised of lace and pearl beading, while the rest of the dress had small polka dots. The high slit and light, flowy fabric was exciting to play around with and helped us create some striking photographs.

We had a wonderful time being “back in the saddle” so to speak. This session was in late summer 2020, so the wedding and event industry was still under heavy restrictions. We adhered to every guideline but didn’t let that slow us down. Everyone worked together to finally let loose all of our creative pent-up energy and made something truly special.

The Venue

North Corner Haven is a fully functioning farm and event venue. There are over five acres of land used for events, and they provide you with a bevy of options including the Cedar Barn, Well House, Event Lawn, Farmhouse Porch, Orchards & Courtyard, and surrounding grounds. They also help with the design of events, making them a truly full-service venue.

I was blown away by the variety of backdrops in such close proximity. The Orchard with rows of lush grapevines are only steps away from a swing hanging from a large tree and a tranquil field. A venue like this allows photographers to provide lots of variety to our clients. It’s kind of a dream come true!

The Cedar Barn is unlike the typical barns we photograph in the Charlotte area. It has a modern flair with large black glass sliding doors on both sides. The windows provide a stunning sunset reflection on the front side that can serve as a ceremony location that “wows” your guests.

It’s also worth noting that there is plenty of space for everyone to get ready for a wedding on-site. This helps alleviate stress for the couple and the photographers/videographers. Having to drive from one location to another to cover both parties, and then drive to the venue can really eat up a chunk of the timeline.

The overall feel of this venue is serene and private modern luxury. It clearly has a flair of Southern touches (I mean it is a farm) but it is up-to-date and polished.

Décor

The color palette for this ballet wedding was light and soft. It was comprised of pink, ivory, green, and grey. The table decor and ceremony site had lush florals, paired with concrete and stone elements. The table numbers were displayed on square concrete stones which were something I had never seen! The use of texture was something I really enjoyed. The contrast of sleek and smooth next to rough edge created wonderful interest.

The pink and ivory color palette was also on display by Royal Fluff. She handed out pink and white-colored cotton candy wands that made for great fun and photographs. I loved this modern and creative twist on dessert!

A Note From Us

During a time where the Black Lives Matter movement has become the forefront of the conversation around the world, we do want to emphasize that African American couple representation matters. Our work is all-inclusive, and we want every shade, size, and orientation to see themselves in our photographs. We stand by and support all of you! You’ll notice a “Black Beauty” image below. This is a type of grape (my dad has an orchard so I’m familiar with the type) and I felt it made a statement and went along with the intention of this day. Black is beautiful!
